Independent Irish, Folk, Celtic Music Record Label
My name is Marc Gunn. I am the owner of Mage Records.
When I was a kid, I remember watching football with my dad. I'd lie on the floor mesmerized by the game, but for some reason, I always felt bad for the team that lost. So I started rooting for the underdog.
In the mid-90s, I formed a couple bands and fought hard to earn public awareness through the media to no avail. Eventually, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Soon I learned about the DIY movement and when I started performing with the Brobdingnagian Bards, I was firmly convinced that there was no point in getting a record label.
If I want something done right, I have to do it myself. Thus was born Mage Records.
Mage Records is focused on the little guy. Through a vast network of Celtic music magazines and podcasts, I help independent artists get the attention they so richly deserve.
At present, this is a one-man show. I don't have a lot of time to promote bands. However, now and then I find something quite extraordinary that I believe in. To them, I give the extra helping hand in some of the ways listed below:
- Sign the artist to my label,
- Design websites for the artist,
- Record the artist, or
- Promote the artist in my magazine, podcasts, or on my websites.
I believe artists need to largely take care of themselves. That's why I publish free articles, reports, and books on guerrilla music marketing for musicians.
