The Costs Associated with Producing a CD
Sara Hickman published a very cool article on How much it costs to produce a CD. And ouch do her numbers sting!
Fortunately, we've been able to cut our CD production costs to a fraction of that number. But then our music is recorded bare bones in a traditional folk music style. We would never be able to put out as many CDs as we have those numbers.
Quite honestly, I think the biggest factor she's left out is the marketing and promotion of the album. I wish I could give solid numbers, but I can't at present. Most of our albums have been promoted on a fly-by-night manner. But I'm hoping that'll change when at last we release our Real Men Wear Kilts CD in 2005.
